Sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks, but I have been in the mediterranean. Checked out some nice watch stores, and saw some beautiful peices. I’ve made some video footage of my trip through Venice, Italy, and the multitude of watch shops in this beautiful sinking city.

I have also been working on a few articles while travelling, including one on buying watches online or in a B&M store.. the pros and cons.

Sometimes I wonder what watches rappers are wearing, as often the “gangster” element plays a factor in the branding of a watch. Kind of like how a Cadillac Escalade has a different crowd than say a Porsche Cayenne. I’ve compiled a list of some popular Rap and R&B artists to see what kinds of watches they are wearing. I was quite surprised!

50 Cent – Breitling for Bentley Loaded with Diamonds
T.I. – Franck Muller King Conquistador
Pharrell – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak & Casio Bape G-Shock (Though He Raps about a Richard Mille)
Flo Rida – Some sorta Iced-Out Bling (Though He Raps about a Muller)
Jay-Z – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
Kanye West – Tiret New York & Casio Bape G-Shock
Usher – Tiret New York
Chris Brown – Avianne & Co Premier King
P-Diddy – Bovet Fleurier
Eminem – Rolex
Ludacris – Jacob & Co
Akon – Breitling Super Avenger & Bentley Motors & More

So as you can see, there is a huge variety of watches out there and quite often the artists aren’t wearing what they’re rapping about. The large majority of them seeme dto be wearing various iced-out bling watches that I’ve never seen, likely from some of the brands I’d never heard of such as “Tiret New York” and “Avianne”.. they seemed to be bling watch manufacturers. I didn’t list the ones that were wearing iced-out watches that were unknown to me, except Flo Rida who is pictured above.

Interesting article I was forwarded from the research company that published it states that “Many videos found online for watches resemble mini-movies more than commercials. Our study finds that for one in five male jewelry/watch buyers 18 to 24, online video does more than entertain, it impacts what they buy or where they buy it.”, according to C. Lee Smith, who is the CEO of Ad-Ology.

I read that and I was wondering, does this refer to MY mini movies? Or does it refer to manufacturer published movies on watches. I do get a lot of feedback on my youtube reviews and a lot of people do seem to watch them before they purchase a watch.

I’m glad they do some good and help people make more informed decisions. Another interesting stat is that over 84% of jewelry and watch buyers prefer to make their purchases at a store as opposed to online.

On the top of my list of dress watches that I would really love to own, but can’t afford (especially with the markets the way they are right now! Blech!), are Jacquet Droz. I love the simple lines, coupled with significantly sized cases. They are like the minimalist version of F.P. Journe, in my opinion.

Their new model, the Ceramic Power Reserve, uses high-tech ceramics combined with their signature styling to acheive a watch that is both class, and tech all in one. The case measures 44m, and the movement is a Jaquet Droz caliber 4063D with 30 jewels. Power reserve is a respectable 68 hours.

Some other very cool models from Jacquet Droz include the Grande Seconds, and the Grande Seconde Decentree:

Holy crap! This is probably the most insane (ugly?) watch I have ever seen. Built as Haute Horologie, the Hysek Colosso watch is truly a sight to behold. Whether you think it is beauty or beast, it certainly stands out in the crowd. I personally would not be caught dead with this thing on my wrist.

Jorg Hysek, of the company’s namesake, has been designing watches for almost 30 years, designing watches for Rolex and Vacheron Constantin, among others. His watches command a premium and this one is no exception. The colosso will cost you $550,000.

Retrograde Time Zones
