Concord is part of the expanding Movado Group… and ever since the Movado Group purchased Ebel in 2003, they have had somewhat of a resurgance in the watch world. The Movado Group consists of Concord, Movado, Ebel, Coach, ESQ and Tommy Hilfiger brands among others. Both Ebel and Concord had been showing their age, but have recently been revived with new models, Ebel with their 1911 BTR’s with the new In-House movements, and Concord with the new C1.

In addition to the C1, Concord does have some nice (albeit overpriced) options in their lineup. The newer Saratoga XL line is a big 44mm Saratoga that overwhelms my wrist with it’s presence. Very nice and noticeable in the 44mm size. When I tried it on at a jeweler’s he tried to convince me that Concord was an even more prestigious brand than Ebel and much more so than Omega or Breitling. Then he told me the Saratoga had a list price of $10K. I beg to differ…

Ebel is Movado Group’s highest end brand I think, and Concord has always been the brand that is offered with the highest discount in any watch store. During sales, Concords always had the extra discount. That turned me off them immediately, however I do admit the Saratoga XL looked pretty sweet… and if it’s any indication of what the C1 Chrono is going to look like.. the C1 when it’s introducted in Winter 2007 will be one hell of a watch.

The Concord C1 Chronograph looks like some sort of hybrid between an Hublot Big Bang, Dewitt Academia and a Concord Saratoga… and that is a good thing, because the Big Band and Academia’s are beautiful watches. I really think that Concord may be onto something with this new watch… It was introduced several months ago and Concord’s website now consists of nothing but a video for this watch.. no current models, no nothing.. just a video with the C1 in it. Must be big. Can’t wait to see it myself… Concord might hold some interest for me after all.

In one of my recent videos, I’ve examined a SuperOcean Steelfish X-plus Replica. This watch is very convincingly real, even though it is clearly a fake. Considering the low quality of fakes that many get duped by on ebay, a high quality fake like this might easily make it into someone’s collection posing as real.

I want to make sure everyone out there is aware of the quality of fake Breitlings now. These fakes cost a fair bit of money, selling in the $150-300US market, depending ont he movement you request. They are available with genuine Swiss ETA movements! The rotors and movements are not elaborately decorated as all Breitlings are, but there are many many similarities, and the dials are quite good. Watch the video and see the level of detail these Chinese fakes now have.. its astonishing!

I’ve looked around at a few places to buy Breitlings online, and between some of the bigger sellers such as Jomashop, authentic watches and world of watches… World of Watches definately seems to have the edge in price. Their selection is somewhat limited however.. with only just over 30 in stock. Their watches are guaranteed authentic with several of the more popular models such as the Chronomat Evolution and Bentley models for up to and sometimes over 30% off the retail price and no sales tax outside of the state.

I think they only sell within the United States, however. Check them out.. here are just a few of the watches they have avaiable:

Received an email today from a visiter referring to a American Express Breitling watch, apparently exclusive to the company. I am not aware of such a watch… wondering if any of you are? I do particularly find it rewarding when users email me with praise about my website, as I did spend a lot of time developing it and the backend for it as a serving system for Breitling watch information and building the forum up from nothing.

The Amex Breitling that this guy talks about is interesting to me since Breitling does not make exclusive watches anymore, and you pay a lot of money to have your logo put onto the watch face as mentioned in a prior article.

This is what he posted in the email:

“Hello

Was just looking at your wonderful website and thought you may be able to help me.

Back in about 1982/83 I purchased a Breitling watch from American Express. They used to have catalogues of some very nice unusual items, and as I was living in a very remote and rugged part of Australia I ordered the Breitling watch.

It was satin black and had quite a small face, almost like a ladies watch. It had a simple face in black also and was waterproof to some ridiculous depth. The band was a matching black metal band and for its size it was quite a heavy timepiece. It was a very durable watch and took all kinds of beatings in its stride.

I had a jeweller replace the battery and he broke the winder mechanism simply because he didnt know what a Breitling watch was or how they were constructed. He failed to unscrew the winder first to break the seal so he forced it with a tool. The watch was ruined and has since been lost.

I would like to know if you are familiar with this timepiece? I have never seen another one in all my travels and would like to know what it was as I can seem to find one on the net either. Apparently they were exclusive to AMEX.

Can you help? I hope so. If not, thanks you for your time and thank you for a wonderful web site.”

Ever wonder? Why is it that watches are such a man-thing. Men’s watches are sell for more than women’s watches, and maintain their value better on the secondary market. Maybe this is because traditionally Watches were the only type of jewellry that men are suppose to wear… though that’s changed in recent years.

I ran across a post in a blog called “Men are Better than Women”… explaining why watches are so manly.. and it’s pretty darn accurate, haha! Its actually quite perfect that this is posted in a Breitling blog, as these are perhaps some of the manliest watches made.

Do we however argue that IWC watches are more manly because they only make men’s watches? Or does the sheer size and heft of the Super Avenger nullify any of that?…
