The world’s first wristwatch with a dual frequency locator beacon

Breitling has reaffirmed its pioneering role in the field of technical watches and instruments for professionals by creating the very first wristwatch with a built-in personal locator beacon (PLB). The Emergency II is a high-tech gem equipped with a dual frequency transmitter compliant with the specifications of the Cospas-Sarsat international satellite alert system and serving both to issue alerts and to guide search and rescue missions.

Developed in conjunction with major scientific institutes, the Emergency II is distinguished by numerous microelectronic and microtechnical innovations, including a revolutionary rechargeable battery, a miniaturized dual frequency transmitter and an unprecedented integrated antenna system – three features specifically developed for this model.

As the first ever wristworn dual frequency PLB, it establishes itself as a safety and survival instrument in all distress situations on land, at sea and in the air.

Breitling is one of the organizing sponsors of this tournament and will support teams throughout the United States with their retail partners to help further broaden the scope of the tournament and help raise funds for the charity. The culmination of all the tournaments is the Grand Finale, taking place in Las Vegas this October, where tournament winners, as well as teams that raised funds in excess of $13,000, will qualify to play.

BENTLEY LIGHT BODY MIDNIGHT CARBON

Ultra-light, ultra-sporty

Beneath its all-black exterior, the highly original Bentley Light Body Midnight Carbon issued in a 1,000-piece worldwide limited edition conceals a light and sturdy titanium chassis featuring a highly resistant carbon-based coating.

The dashboard-style dial displays two exclusive Breitling technical features highlighted by red-rimmed indications. The ingenious “30-second chronograph” system, heir to a 1926 Breitling patent, with its central hand sweeping around the dial in half a minute instead of the customary 60 seconds, provides highly accurate 1/8th of a second readings. Contrary to conventional tachometers, designed to handle observations based only on times of less than 60 seconds, the “variable tachometer” activated via the rotating pinion bezel serves to measure average speeds whatever the time elapsed, the distance covered or the speed reached. The originality and strength of the all-black design are accentuated by the hands and hour-markers also clad in matt black – enhanced by a luminescent coating ensuring optimal readability in the dark. The midnight black rubber strap is distinguished by its central raised motif echoing that of the knurled bezel – a refined nod to the famous radiator grilles gracing the prow of Bentley cars. The performances of this elegant and ultra-sporty watch are powered by a selfwinding chronograph movement chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) – the ultimate reference in terms of reliability and precision and the only one based on an international standard.

Breitling Announces New Partnership with Acclaimed Professional Golfer Ernie Els in 2013

Sounds like this is more than the usual ambassador relationship, with Ernie representing Breitling or more than one level. Almost like the Alicia Keys-Blackberry relationship.

As part of the partnership, Els will participate in various events on behalf of Breitling, where he will interact directly with Breitling enthusiasts in key markets. In addition to special events and appearances, Breitling will also create a special limited edition Breitling Chronomat 44, available in April, which is Autism Awareness month. A percentage of the proceeds from the limited edition watch will go to the Els for Autism Foundation, with the organization’s logo etched on the back of the caseback.

“I’ve always had a passion for watches,” said Els, who at age 43 has 69 professional career victories to his name. “Breitling is an iconic brand I’ve long admired. They create beautifully crafted and precise timepieces I know I’m going to enjoy wearing. With my love of flying and Breitling’s affinity and connection with the history of aviation, this feels like the perfect partnership, one of genuine shared values. It’s a pleasure to be associated with the company and I look forward to working with everyone on the team.”

Els is one of the most prolific golfers of his generation, winning four Major Championships, two World Golf Championships and a record seven World Matchplay titles. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011 and the South African Golf Hall of Fame in 2009.

In addition to his outstanding ability on the golf course, Els also prides himself on creating several charitable organizations to help serve children around the globe. The Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation was established in 1999 to identify young talented golfers, predominantly from families of limited resources, and to provide them with educational assistance and playing opportunities. The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 to help young individuals and families on the autism spectrum and to create the Els Center of Excellence, which will make available the very best practices in education and therapy with a global reach.

“Breitling is honored to partner with Ernie Els in 2013,” said Breitling USA President Thierry Prissert. “We have a strong admiration for Ernie’s efforts, not only on the golf course, but also his passion for philanthropy. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Ernie for many years to come.”
