Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish 42mm & 44mm X-Plus – What’s the Diff?
Posted by The Breitling Source under Breitling , Watch Tips & Tricks[16] Comments
There are two different SuperOcean Steelfishes out there, and many people are often confused as to which one they are buying, the X-Plus or the original. Especially since Breitling has dropped X-Plus from the name.
Like many watch companies, when new models are released, sometimes they change or have a transition model initially. The SuperOcean steelfish was one of these models. Initially when the Steelfish was a variant of the SuperOcean with two-tone brushed and polished case and bracelet on a professional I bracelet. 1500m water resistance and a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock. This model was only produced for a year. The above picture shows the two. The watch on the right is the X-Plus… notice the Profesional II bracelet.
As you can see both models are very similar, but a couple things to note. The SuperOcean X-Plus, now on the left in the above picture, is all brushed. The watch is less blingy than the original brushed/polished two-tone. The original was also only available with a professional I bracelet, however you could buy a bracelet for the regular SuperOcean and use it.
The pic above gives you an idea of their size difference, even tho only 2mm, is quite substantial on the wrist. Also the all brushed look of the X-Plus makes a difference. Both models shown are in the blue dial, which is my favourite of all the dials. Same movement in both watches, the Breitling Caliber 17.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this post. It would be especially useful for those of you looking to purchase a Steelfish online so you don’t accidently buy the wrong one! Here are links to both on the BreitlingSource site:

I would like to consult with you which watch is better to buy (both unused with professional 2):
the superocean stillfish X-plus from 2006 (894A) or the superocean stillfish (297) from 2007.
Can you please advise?

Both are the same watch.

Thanks for the quick response,
I might be wrong with the model numbers but,
I found out that The SuperOcean Steelfish X-Plus has been renamed the SuperOcean Steelfish in 2007 . The X-Plus name was used for only one model year, 2006.
I found some gaps between the 2 like the arrow second hand in the 2007 model.
Please advise

Yes.. it was renamed in 2007, which is why I said they are both the same watch. However, the arrow second hand does not differentiate the model.. it is simply a change that they made. This change also occured for other Breitling models like the superocean, but the model name did not change for that watch. Some steelfishes sold in 2007 did not have the arrow hand. Watch model years are NOT like car model years.

Thanks for the clarification.
I saw both in the same store, and I am in dilema which one of them to buy.
Would you go with the new model (as a car) or not necessarily?
I liked the arabic numerals and the brushed bracelet of the 2006 model but I hesitate to buy a 2.5 years watch when I can get the 2007 in the same price.
Am I right?
Please advise

The 2007 model should have a brushed bracelet and arabic numerals as well.. I’m not sure what you are talking about? You should buy the one you want.. if it is 2.5 years old as opposed to 1.5 years old what’s the difference if you like the 2.5years old model more?

Clear,
Thanks

Get whichever one you want.. I have the 2007 Steelfish (silver dial) and LOVE it. You can’t go wrong with either one you choose.

Can anyone tell me where is a good place to find Breitling replacement Bands? I am looking to replace the band on my Steelfish from the Professional 1 to the Professional 2 band, just looking for who has the best price.
Thanks.

I’ve got a small collection of watches. I’m saving money for just one piece, and this will be a Breitling. Since I don’t have money growing in the garden, I would settle with a Breitling piece if possible, without to many features. I quit smoking and with the money I save I could buy a Breitling. Chrono is not a must for example, however, I would like a rather big, and “impressive” case, black dial, with steel bracelet.
I live in Europe, prices start at about 2000 euro I’ve been told. But I don’t know of which model that refers to.
I would appriate a lot of someone could give me some advise and suggestion on what types are availeble with a maximum price of 3000 euro. Thanks.
(sorry for my poor English)

The SuperOcean Steelfish reviewed here is a larger case, and likely in your price range. You might also want to check the SuperOcean Heritage 46:

I’m an assistant to a professional golfer who has the white face Breitling Superocean Steelfish and is about to go to Tourneau and see what they’ll pay for it. If you’re still interested, e-mail me at dempsey_will@hotmail.com
