Here’s a glimpse at some of the new watches that Breitling revealed at Baselworld 2016. These pictures were taken by Dale Vito of Ace Jewellers in Amsterdam. Please see the full thread on the forum here: http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60125. We’ll be posting full watch specs and details as they come in!

The first totally new watch line from Breitling in a couple years, dubbed the Chronoliner. This new watch is hard for me to place. I’m excited because it is kind of vintage looking, with a couple neat features like the ceramic bezel. It also uses the Navitimer World case as a base and is available with the optional navitimer bracelet in addition to the Ocean Racer.

The authentic flight captain’s watch
A chronometer-certified chronograph to measure flight times, a second timezone display in 24-hour mode to juggle time differences around the planet, a scratch-resistant high-tech black ceramic bezel: the new Chronoliner reinterprets the spirit of aviation in an original and timeless style.

Across more than half a century, aviation has enjoyed spectacular progress. Planes’ performances have reached dizzying heights. The instrument panels featuring pointer-type counters and manual controls of the Super Constellation aircraft and the first jets have given way to computer screens and electronic joysticks. But two things have remained unchanged: flight captains still wear the same prestigious uniform; and a Breitling chronograph continues to sit proudly on their wrist.

Inspired by a model from the 1950s and 60s, an era when Breitling was already an “official supplier to world aviation”, the new Chronoliner continues this tradition in a resolutely modern spirit. Its most distinctive feature is a broad bezel in scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic – one of the hardest synthetic materials – with a star-shaped cut-out to facilitate handling, along with white ceramic numerals ensuring an optimal contrast. The second timezone is clearly and simply read off thanks to the red-tipped hand and this rotating bezel with its graduated 24-hour scale, equipped with an ultra-precise ratcheted system. Just the ticket for a long-haul flight anywhere in the world. The performances of the chronograph, which is officially chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) like all Breitling movements, are displayed on counters at 12, 9 and 6 o’clock. The dial is distinguished by a degree of legibility worthy of the finest flight instruments, with white luminescent hour-markers standing out against a black background, oversized hour/minute hands, along with counter hands also featuring a luminescent coating. The robust polished steel case with its 46 mm diameter radiates a strong presence on the wrist of professionals. The caseback bears the stylized planes that were a longtime Breitling signature. The original and timeless touch is complemented by a comfortable and distinctive steel mesh bracelet. The new Chronoliner: the authentic flight captain’s watch.

Revisiting this watch now that I have spent more time and have owned a couple of them. Could be the quintessential Breitling, even more so than the Navitimer in some ways because it more closely resembles the styling of the majority of the Breitling line. The Navitimer is an Icon that will always be synonymous with Breitling, but the Chronomat is the watch that leads their designs. Hope you enjoy the review!

I don’t know if a revamp or “Fresh Momentum”, as Breitling calls it is the right description, but the Colt has returned to its roots with a design that resembles the previous Breitling Colt models complete with Rider Tabs and an Automatic model.

The new Colt will be available in a Colt Quartz Chronograph version, regular Colt Quartz, Colt Automatic, and Colt Lady models.

From Breitling:

Breitling has redesigned the entire Colt collection while reviving its original spirit: that of a military watch combining peerless performance with an efficient and understated style.

Colt was born in the 1980s and initially intended for the armed forces – like other Breitling watches such as the Navitimer and the Chronomat – before winning over a broad audience through its sturdiness, its reliability and its readability. It has since established itself as the most accessible Breitling model. The newly revamped Colt features a design that reinterprets all the essential assets on which it has built its success. The broad unidirectional rotating bezel with a satin-brushed finish and engraved hour-markers is adorned with four rider tabs – a Breitling signature feature – ensuring excellent handling as well as enhanced protection of the sapphire crystal which is glareproofed on both sides. The polished steel case, water-resistant to 200 meters (660 ft), is equipped with a large screw-locked crown with protective reinforcements. The black, blue or silver dials are enlivened by a fine circular raised motif and their readability is enhanced by oversized hands and hour-markers, accentuated by a luminescent coating. The satin-brushed steel bracelet may be replaced by a rubber or leather strap. The new Colt comes in a range of four models: a 44 mm watch with a mechanical selfwinding movement certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) – the highest official benchmark in terms of reliability and precision; a watch and chronograph equipped with SuperQuartz™ movements, ten times more accurate than standard quartz; and a Lady watch with a smaller diameter and an optionally gemset bezel. All of which brings fresh momentum to this collection with a youthful, dynamic and winsome attitude.”

Fresh Momentum for the Colt Video:

In 2015, the S3 company (Swiss Space Systems) will be organizing its first weightless ZeroG flights to a broad public. As the main partner in this project, Breitling will equip passengers with an exclusive chronograph specially designed for this experience. Registration is now open!

In 1962, Breitling made its maiden weightless flight on the wrist of Scott Carpenter with a Navitimer Cosmonaute – the first space-traveling wrist chronograph. The brand with the winged B is now the main sponsor of the Swiss project S3 (Swiss Space Systems), of which the avowed aim is “space for all”. For this purpose, S3 has notably set up a program of weightless flights. The ZeroG project will begin in 2015 in over 15 locations around the world, including Asia, the Middle East and Central America. These flights of around two hours aboard an Airbus will each include 15 “parabolas” or free floats lasting between 20 to 25 seconds and providing a chance to experience total weightlessness by floating as if in space. Passengers’ equipment will include a Breitling chronograph specially created for the occasion. Equipped with a light and sturdy black titanium case and a SuperQuartz™ movement (ten times more accurate than standard quartz), this S3 ZeroG chronograph is distinguished by its S3 logo appearing on the dial and the rubber strap, as well as by its caseback engraving depicting a parabolic flight. It will serve as a boarding card for passengers and will not be commercialized outside this flight program. Along with their flight suit, the lucky partakers in the ZeroG experience will be entitled to keep this authentic high-performance and functional instrument for professionals, water-resistant to 100 meters, as mementoes representing the equipment having accompanied them during this unique and unforgettable moment.
