Watch Industry News

Breitling has finally provided press photos for the new Montbrillant Legende. This model is set to replace the current Navitimer Heritage model which is smaller at 43mm. The Montbrillant Legende will be an imposing 47mm, with an integrated bracelet. This model might have to make it’s way into my collection, as I was eyeing the Heritage before, and also the world. I love the 2 subdial layout with the 6 o’clock date window. Powered by the Breitling Caliber 23 movement, the same one that is in the standard Navitimer model, this model will sure to be a hit!

Available in a variety of case combinations, with 3 dial colors: Silver, Black and Bronze. Silver will be on my wishlist.

Movement: Breitling 23
Diameter: 47mm

This watch has been hyped up a lot, using a new Manufacture movement, the ML 128 from Maurice Lacroix. This groundbreaking new movement only has 2 hands and a disc to indicate the hours. Full product shots have not been disclosed as ML slowly is releasing animated shorts and product glimpses up to the unveiling at Baselworld 2008.

This new movement has a 3/4 rotor, and will memorize the time and chrono locations with the hands as the user switches between chronograph and time mode. This is surely one of the most complex complications ever devised!

Zenith Chronomaster Venice

I’ve always loved Zenith watches, and their Chronomaster series looks fanastic, though the Defy series is where my heart lies. Zenith released a new model a week or so ago with some amazing looking visuals!

Utilizing the venerable El Primero movement, this new Venice Edition of the Zenith Chronomaster is outstanding. It uses the Caliber 4021 from Zenith, which beats as an extremely accurate 36,000vph.

Visible throught the sapphire caseback is the 22 karat gold oscillating weight mounted on the rotor. The dial is Guilloche with a Venice Lion patters on both the dial and over the open heart. The watch is an extremely large 45mm in diamater, enough for even the most manly man! Water resistant to 30 meters. This watch is limited to 100 peices and is available in Rose Gold.

Breitling and Bentley are sponsoring a weekend of beautiful vintage cars and a tribute race. There will be three concours with tons of beautiful historic and exotic cars. Breitling will have a booth set up there to display their wristwatches. Kind of cool. Wish I could be there.

I am not that familiar with some of the names that are there: Richard Attwood, Skip Barber, Bob Bondurant, Geoff Boss, Nick Craw, Janet Guthrie, David Hobbs, David Piper, Johnny Rutherford, Peter Windsor, George Wintersteen.

But nice Bentley vehicles and a Breitling watch booth.. that’s enough for me!

The International Watch Company (IWC) has signed NBA Superstar Tony Parker as their new Brand Ambassador. Parker, who recently married beautiful actress Eva Longoria earlier this month, is now not only a 3-time NBA Championship winner, but the ambassador of one of the most sought-after men’s brands in Swiss Watches.

Parker left his native France to join the San Antonio Spurs in 2001, and has been named tournament MVP as well as participating in several NBA All-Star games.

Here’s what Tony has to say:
“I’m very excited to partner with IWC. I appreciate the design and craftsmanship of their watches. Also as First Ambassador to the Make A Wish Foundation in France, I’ve come to really appreciate the charitable enterprises that companies take on. In this area, IWC stood out – their involvement in social responsibility initiatives such as the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which helps underprivileged youth around the world really impressed me.”

This is a great move by IWC to expand their already fast-growing US Market. Being of French decent, this also benefits IWC’s European market, a smart decision by the company.
