New Watch Models

Who says Doxa’s are unique? Well, Irreantum Watch, a new watch company based in Maine, USA, has put out their first watch: The Magellan. The watch is due to hit the streets summer of 2010, and is available for pre-order at $150. The full price of the watch is $545.

The 316L Stainless Steel case features a massive 45mm diameter and 13.6mm thickness. The crystal is sapphire and the movement is an ETA 2824-2, presumably unmodified. Throw in a C3 SuperLuminova and 500m Water Resistance and you have quite the package at $545 retail.

While I’m sure many Doxa fans are screaming “Copycat!”, the Magellan isn’t really a copy of Doxa’s watches but more a copy of the style of watches from the 60’s that Doxa has continued to produce to this day. Magellan’s watches are offered at a much lower pricepoint, and probably uses cases constructed more affordably. The dials are quite nice, and they are available in a few different colors, all of which you can check out on their website: http://www.irreantumwatch.com/, and more on their blog: http://ordinaryhappilyeverafter.blogspot.com/2010/01/irreantum-magellan.html

Check out the new Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra XXL Small Seconds.. this is a massive 49.2mm Aqua Terra, in a limited edition of 88 pieces in white and 88 pieces in rose gold. Dials are old-school enamel with beautiful blued hands and an applied small seconds subdial in sterling silver. The watch is fitted with an Omega Caliber 2211, and is COSC certified Chronometer.

Zenton, a new watch brand dedicated to producing dive watches in limited numbers, has released a few watches with the launch of their new brand. The model is the M45, and it comes in a variety of different color combinations, all which can be customized from dial color and bezel color to left and right hand crown!

The M45 features 2000m water resistance, helium release valve, Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement adjusted to 5 positions, all in a stainless steel 45mm case. I’m curious where these are made, as the site has absolutely no mention of this. This makes me a bit suspicious and leads me to believe they are manufactured in China or somewhere that is less desirable. They are extremely affordable at $888.

Here is a list of the specs:
Bezel diameter 45mm / Lug to lug 53.5mm /
Band 24mm / Height 17mm
2000m water resistant
Automatic helium escape valve
Antimagnetic 80000 A/m
4.3 mm sapphire glass with inside ar coating
MOVEMENT: eta 2824-2 topgrade 5 positions adjusted

Swiss watchmaker Marc Jenni has launched his own brand of watches, with the first being the Prologue. The watch is available in 18K white and rose gold, and uses the Marc Jenni Caliber 2010 movement. The movement looks like a base movement of some sort, though I’m not sure.

There are some modifications to the mechanism as there is no crown. Instead, the black rubberized ring that encircles the entire watch can be gripped and rotated. Rotating the ring either winds the watch, sets the time, or sets the date – depending on the setting, which is determined by pushing the button at 4 o’clock. The mode is indicated on the dial.

Quite an interesting watch, with a unique difference.

I was browing in my latest issue of Watch Time magazine, and noticed a new Zenith El Primero watch called the Striking 10th Chronograph, which has a new 1/10th second Chronograph timer. In addition to the remarkably accurate chronograph, the watch returns to Zenith’s roots as far as Style. While this is not new for companies such as Breitling and IWC as they have re-released vintage watch designs, this is a drastic change of direction for Zenith, who went the complete opposite direction by dropping their old style completely when they went with the Chronomaster and Defy watches.
