Breitling

Just walked into the Maple Leaf executive lounge at Vancouver International Airport, and noticed for the first time that the clocks in the lounge are all Breitling! They have about 6-7 of them with different timezones, and they look very much like the Breitling Aircraft Clocks. I grabbed a random Aircraft clock photo off the net to give you guys an idea of what I’m talking about:

I would really love to get my grubby little hands on one of those clocks!!! Same as the ones I’ve seen in the Breitling dealers.

Any other airports with these types of clocks? I’ve seen non-instrument style Breitling clocks in European airports.

Recently, I bought both the SuperOcean Heritage 46 and 38 watches for my Fiance and myself as wedding gifts. We are getting married on July 11, 2009, and wanted to have a couple of Breitlings to commemorate the occasion. Since Much of my recent life has revolved around watches and Breitling more specifically, we felt matching Breitling watches were the way to go.

So I set about finding an AD that offered a good price for the purchase, which I did. The SuperOcean Heritage 46 in Black is a very popular watch, and the wait time on that watch is approximately 6 weeks, which is what it finally took for the watch to arrive. But it sure was worth the wait!

They are truly stunning watches, with a very business-black dial and presence on the wrist. Case and bracelet craftmanship is of the typical high Breitling quality. The Specs are as follows:

SuperOcean Heritage 46
Diameter: 46mm
Movement: Breitling Caliber 17
Water Resistance: 200m

SuperOcean Heritage 38
Diameter: 38mm
Movement: Breitling Caliber 37
Water Resistance: 200m

The SuperOcean Heritage 38 is a bit small for me, but to be quite honest, I think that is more than big enough for many wrists. It is slightly small by today’s standards, and while a men’s watch, we decided that it would be a good watch for my fiance as it would match very well with mine. It is a bit large on her wrist, but looks quite nice still.

Here is a nice close up of the dial detail. You will notice that one of the Lume Dots is slightly off-centre. It isn’t noticeable to the naked eye really, but under a loupe or zoom up in a good macro shot its easy to see. Otherwise the dial is immaculate. You can see the slight bluish hue that comes from the double Anti-reflective coating on the Sapphire Crystal.

A nice Bokeh shot with the SOH 46 in the foreground. I think these photographs turned out quite nice, with a slight bit of overexposure. The mesh bracelet is very cool, and fits VERY comfortably on the wrist. It is the most comfortable bracelet that Breitling has made, in my opinion. While the style of the mesh might take a while to really appreciate, the comfort is noticeable immediately.

Bezel clicks very solidly and reeks of quality, as does the crown movement and case machining. Given the price of these watches, I do appreciate them better than the price I would have had to pay for matching Rolex Datejust watches. I probably paid just over half of what a matching pair of all-steel Datejust watches would have costed, and the mens watch would only be 36mm. However, the woman’s datejust does look better for women, I believe.

Here is a shot of the engraving done on the side of the watch. additionally we had our names engraved on the back in an arch, which turned out quite nicely as well. The case-side engraving was a really cool touch, and feels a bit more permanent than the engraving on the caseback, which is something that we liked about it.

I’m a little late posting this, but it came out last week. Breitling The Book. Its a huge comprehensive book on Breitling’s History, and is only available from Breitling Directly as far as I know. Price is $175US, $135EU, or $200CHF, and it is available in 5 languages: English, French, Spanish, German and Italian.

There is a big section on the new B01 caliber, and the book in many ways commemorates this event. Beautifully packaged, and bound, this book is a great addition to any collection, and you can bet I will be buying mine. Not sure if it is available at Authorized Dealers, but would be a nice thing to pick up locally if possible.

Here’s a video review of the beautiful and understated (for Breitling at least) Breitling for Bentley Mark VI. This is one of the classiest watchest that Breitling has ever made. Subtle Mother of Pearl indices, unique chronograph movement and heavy knurled platinum bezel all contribute to making this watch a very special peice. Enjoy the video 🙂

I’ve tried to compile the list here. Some of them are just solid gold limited editions of existing models which I haven’t bothered to list here. Database entries are incomplete and I will fill them up as the information becomes available.

Breitling Airwolf Raven – This model is the same as previous Airwolf with the addition of a Rubber bezel and rubber inserts on the pushpeices.

Breitling Skyracer Raven – Like the Airwolf Raven, this one is the same as previous Skyracers, with the addition of the Rubber Bezel and pushpeice inserts.

Breitling Colt GMT 2 – Brand new Colt GMT for the season! Integrated Professional 2 bracelet.

Breitling Chronomat B01 – This one needs no introduction… the brand new Chronomat with the B01 caliber in-house movement!

Chrono-matic 1461 – This appears to be a large 49mm Chrono-matic with the 1461 jours movement. This model is in gold.

Chrono-matic QP – This also looks to be a 49mm model as well, in gold with the QP full perpetual movement.

Breitling for Bentley 6.75 Speed – This looks very similar to the previous 6.75 with the addition of Chrome accenting around the subdials.

Breitling for Bentley Motors Speed – Like the 6.75 Speed, this looks very similar to the previous Motors with the addition of Chrome accenting around the subdials. I have seen photos of what appears to be a Motors T Speed as well.
