New Breitling Superocean 2010!
Posted by The Breitling Source under Breitling , New Watch Models[26] Comments
The new Breitling SuperOcean has been revealed, and it is a heck of a radical change. Gone are the rider tabs, gone are the solid stainless bezels. We are returned to the bezel inserts reminscent of the Breitling Superocean Heritage, except this time being rubber inserts. The dial and colors are very attractive to me, but somehow lacks the class that made the previous SuperOcean such a versatile watch.
The watch sizes in at 42mm, which is not changed from before. The numerals on the bezel are a little bit like the space invaders numbers that populate the bezel on the B01 as well. Movement is the tried and true Breitling Caliber 17, and Helium Valve is located at 10 o’clock. Water resistance remains unchanged at 1500m. The new dial colors are called: Abyss Black, Abyss Silver, Abyss Blue, Abyss Red and Abyss Yellow. The tip of the second hand also matches the color of the chapter ring, which is a nice touch. The lume is now super oversized and could be called the Maxi-Dial, to coin a Rolex term 😉

Don’t forget to mention the bezel is rubber coated now, and it doesn’t have a luminous pearl or minute notches. Hence its function as a diver’s tool is no more.

I should mention this.. yes the Bezel insert is rubber. The rest is visible from the photographs… but I do agree, as a diving bezel goes, this one is not too useful.

Yuch,
From classy and classic to modern and tasteless. Its amazaing how little you have to change to make something great look like a cheap replica!
So the face colours are anything you like as long as its black, there’s a choice, you get to pick what colour highlights around the face in an otherwise un-relieved black dial and black bezel.
The colours shouldn’t be called Abyss they should be called Abyssmal.
I will definately not be replacing my lovely 2005 Superocean with any of this tat.
IMHO

Nice Citizen Promaster! Oops. Why it’s a SuperOcean…I think. Disappointing to see Breitling has changed its direction from the makers of fine timepieces to fashion watches. What’s next? A Breitling/Hugo Boss collaboration selling at your local department store?

mixed emotions on this one, as a rolex fan and a breitling critic may i ask how many will buy the superocean as a divers watch? just as how many chronomat owners are pilots?
maybe breitling, as a buisness have just made what the public want as orders have been astronomical especially for the abyis silver and black
ok this is a change but so is abama or a coalition, and in my opinion its a vast improvement upon the steelfish.

Am surprised that you are a Rolex fan since you guys are Breitling and not Rolex dealers?
June 4th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
the corperation have been OFFICIAL ROLEX AGENTS for several years, however this is a forum not a argument board
June 4th, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Actually this is a Blog not a forum, and any time you present an opinion, there’s a chance someone will argue with you – BUT I didn’t think we were arguing. Your website doesn’t list Rolex as a brand, and I just found it interesting that since you work for a Breitling Dealer, you’d be more of a Rolex fan and more of a Breitling Critic as you say.
Usually people are more likely to pump up the brands they carry. Not looking for an argument, perhaps you are sensitve to it.

not at all i really like watches in general, but have always beeen a roloex fan- rolex are not listed online as you can only buy them in person its not rolex policy to sell online. and they are not listed as a goldsmiths brand as not all goldsmiths stores are rolex assosiated dealers.
back to the superocean, im not really sure why the bezel has no pearl just like im not sure why most omega speed masters have a self winding movement and still labled as moon watches even though the rotor wont work in 0-gravity, when questioned about this by international watch mag they simply answered “how many will be taken to the moon” im sure breitling have their reasons though, supply and demand maybe, or maybe they just ponder on the thought of how many superoceans will see the sea never mind a crushing dive of 1500m
its surprising that the most popular divers watch we sell to profesionals is a citizen, the rolex submariner tends to go to people treating themselvs to a sports model of iconic status and the oversized breitlings attract another type of customer of which i will not discrace myself by labeling-in a nut shell we are all different i like the superocean, mainly because its a change from the norm for breitling but partly because of the rubber insert, its not laced with tacky bling its not a swatch in a savil row suit its not a poor quartz movt in a fancie case like former colt models its a true well planned breath of fresh air. may the footballers of the world please stick to silberstien or breitling for bently and leave the humble 42mm divers watch to true lovers of horology. maybe we will chat again when the next breitling is released but for now lets all have our own views and enjoy what we enjoy.
il keep you posted on sales and on customer comments and beleive me there will be a few.

hey and sorry about the blog forum thing im a watch seller and the internet is all relativly new to me
June 5th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
Good to know, its nice to hear a retailers input as far as Brand Audience. I’m not that surprised that Citizen appeals more to professional divers. They are probably truly designed for the Diver anyway. If they only sold Speedmasters to people that were going to space, they wouldn’t sell too many!

we saw a new galactic 41 today, just a display model to prompt orders its replaiced the cockpit, quite a nice watch. we have also received a new chopard chronograph which i really like , have you seen the new submariner? as a fan of rolex im really dissapointed with it, also found out today from a collegue that the rolex explorer 2 is to be revamped but this could just be rumor???
as for the citizen brand i just think its more popular due to price , we sell plenty in the smaller stores along with seiko and to my horror armani, also the chanel j12 in white has really been popular.what do you think to the co-axail seamaster chronometer 300m in black? i expected it to be really popular but i think the inflated price has detered alot, when the origional seamaster 300m was just over £1000n here in uk they flew out the door but now with the £2000+ price tag people are swerving to the colt or superocean heritage as it seems they prof the breitling name to omega. any views on ebel? they seem to be slow movers as do cartier in our store with the exeption of the tank francaise auto, we cant get enough of those. the new tag heuer f1 seems to be a fast seller along with the carrera but what surprises me is that we had a pre owned monaco in stock and it took 7months to move , maybe because we dont offer finance on sale for client watches. are you uk usa or elsewhere?

i dont know how you can say this is a move to fashion. they are moving to a sporty casual look appealing to a younger crowd. but fashion i would say not. more so everyday use for those who want a nicer watch that they can keep on in sports (rubber straps) and keep on whatever they are doing not worrying about the watch been too dressy. they are certainly not making this hugo boss fashion style, sure it has color but it is very subtle

When will it be available in Hong Kong ?

I have both a Superocean and a Sea Dweller (16600) bought in 2000 and 2003 respectively. I’ll be honest and say while the Superocean was on a short list, it was a compromise for a Rolex which had a two year waiting list. I was in Geneva on business, saw the watch in a shop window. The dealer was willing to bargain add in the favourable exchange rate and tax back incentives were too good to pass up. But the moment the Sea Dweller arrived several years later, all my other watches, ranging from a Monaco to a Omega Seamaster (with Co-Axial Escapement) took a back seat in the safe.
But Breitling was my first foray in to quality watches so my Superocean does have a place in my heart. However I have to say I was shocked when I saw the recent adverts for the new 2010 Superocean. I concur with some of the other posters that it looks a bit cheap, really. A mix of Colt styling with a bit of italicised imitation of the Rolex Oyster bezels.
Yes I find the small screws on the side of my 2000 Superocean’s bezel a little annoying, and it has a clack instead of a click when you turn it, and gains a bit of time. But it’s a decent enough time piece. Hopefully this means that ‘classic’ Superocean’s (are they discontinuing – as they are still on the website) may increase in value?

Am in NY and saw the watch today. It is a FUN Breitling and i loved the looks, but it’s too damn small for a water watch.
If it were 44-46mm minimum, I’d be all over it.
Come on Breitling, get with the program!

Looking at the images, I didn’t see “Swiss Made” on the watch face. Why? Does the watch not “qualify” ???

The older superocean is shit. I have owned one for 2 years and it has been in the shop 3 times for crown issues. The most recent issue allowed salt water into the case which cost me $600 to repair. I will never own another Breitling.

Is Owen J Stokes a Breitling dealer? If so, I may be able to put some business his way, esp if he is a Goldsmiths dealer (have some vouchers…). I would like to buy a Superocean 2
February 9th, 2011 at 1:40 pm
Sorry I’m not familiar with Owen J Stokes – if they are listed on the website then they should be a dealer.

Well, I own an xplus, I like it and i think I like the abyss as well. I have an opportunity to purchase an Abyss with 20 months remaining on the international warranty for $1,950 CAD. What do you think of that in terms of value?
February 22nd, 2011 at 10:18 pm
Seems alright to me.

I purchased the new Superocean Abyss in black with S/S band…and I can assure you that it’s no citizen. I have an IWC Aquatimer chrono that is twice the price and that thing spends half it’s life getting fixed in Switzerland. The new Breitling is a bargain at $3,000 Retail (bfore any discount). The fit and finish of the watch are beautiful and it’s so well made you cant believe yu only spent what you did. Aquatimer is being sold. The Superocean Abyss is a terrific timepiece if you can go with a non traditional boring dial and font…which may not be for everyone. I recommend the watch 100%. Love it.
March 29th, 2011 at 1:36 pm
To clarify…the dial is non traditional and NOT boring.

Hello,
I just purchased the Superocean Abyss today! I got it in the Abyss Yellow with a SS bracelet. I’ve been in love with Breitlings since I purchased my very first replica at $200 of a Chrono Cockpit when I was 20. Tell you the truth a 20 year old wearing a $5000 watch was a dead give away, not to mention it looked out of place on my skinny wrist.
That was the beginning of an affair nearly 13 years ago and since then I’ve managed to purchase a Longines Dolcevita chrono and a Montblanc Star chrono and now finally the Superocean Abyss!
The sporty fashionable looks attracted me along with an affordable price point after discount, and quite frankly as much as I like love the Breitling name and the quality that it stands for, I for some reason, never took to the extra bells and whistles most of the watches offered.
I enjoyed reading your posts and have a feeling I will be visiting this blog more often now.

Just purchased this watch in Abyss Silver with Pro diver strap. Looks and feels amazing. So well put together. I tried the other colours on but personally felt they made the watch…… Hmmm, maybe a little chavy. Silver or black is a good choice.
