Hamilton Sunset & Twilight Watches
Posted by The Breitling Source under Hamilton , Watch Industry News[15] Comments
The new Hamilton Sunset watch is worn in the movie I Am Legend, by Will Smith’s character, and follows in Hamilton’s trend of complicated looking chunky watches with lots of functional wrist instrument style. Some of the other watches in this vein are the Hamilton X-Wind and Frogman. The Twilight differs with the Sunset in that it displays twilight info rather than sunset info.
The Hamilton Sunset and Twilight are very cool looking watches with their new Crown Protection system, which looks really cool. I’m unfamiliar as to how it actually works, but it is in several of the new Action series of watches from Hamilton. They are really starting to impress me with their innovative looks and selection of Automatic watches. Here are the specs on this bad boy:
Diameter: 44mm
Water Resistance: 200m
Sapphire Crystal
Movement: ETA 2893
Complications: GMT Hand
Sunset: Sunset times on the 15th of the month for 6 world cities – London, Gander, Los Angeles, Nadi, Manila and Muscat (Why these 6 cities I have no clue.. Muscat? Perhaps the watch is popular in Oman.)
Twilight: Twilight end and start for New York City on the 1st, 11th, and 21st of the month.

Will Smith – I am a legend
The wrist watch he wear in the movie is this.
Swiss Army Men’s ST 4000 Chronograph Watch #24077
You can google this watch very easily.
If you are not blind, that hamilton watch has no ‘digital read-out’!

Sorry ggoma, i’m not blind. In Fact, I’ve never seen the movie. However, there are several references on the internet stating that Will Smith was wearing the watch in the movie… and when I looked at pictures, the guy had two watches on. One of them was the Hamilton Sunset, the other was the watch you mention. Look closer – You can also Google thie very easily.

That’s a very nice piece. I’m not a huge fan of Hamilton but lately they have produced some very desirable watches.

I googled it and watched the movie twice. The important function of the watch in the movie, is ‘alarm’! That hamilton watch doesn’t have it. I strongly suspect some hamilton marketing people made this fake answers. Will smith wears only one watch and the watch has alarm function and digital read-out.

Your Hamilton conspiracy theory doesn’t hold water I’m afraid. If you watch the trailor here it is CLEARLY wearing two watches in the very first shot of the trailer 1 when he is lying in the bathtub:

I’m not saying that the Hamilton was important, just that he simply wore it.

I’ve just watched trailer number 2 and it ALSO clearly shows that Will Smith wears 2 watches in the movie. I would suggest perhaps watching the movie a third time.

This has been argued around on several other watch sites. The consensus right now seems to be yes, Will Smith wears two watches through the movie; one a Hamilton (which is surprisingly a X-wind, and NOT the Sunset/Twilight as the press reported), the other the Swiss Army ST 4000 as mentioned above.

p.s. I enjoy your blog and the video reviews you do, keep it up! Looking forward on picking up my first Breitling when I get my tax return (most likely a Navitimer).

The watches Will Smith wears are the ST 4000 for the alarm function when he looks up the time for sunset and the Hamilton X Wind as Hamilton did not have the Sunset available in time for the shooting of the film. Furthermore, the “Sunset” feature is not accurate on the watch even though the Hamilton web site lists the Sunset watch as the one worn in the film.

I just wanted to confirm the two watches in this movie. Swiss Army ST 4000 on the left wrist, Hamilton Khaki X-wind on the right wrist. Both with black rubber bands, black faces, silver sub faces on the Hamilton.
On a side note:
The alarm heard in the movie is not the alarm that the ST 4000 emits. I have the ST 4000 and it simply beeps a single tone once per second for 30 seconds. In the movie, it’s two-tones and twice per second.

Hamilton paid a fine sum for using their watch in the movie. Details usually ignored like the beeping/alarming Panerai of Jason Statham in “The transporter”.

If I lived in an post-apocalyptics world, I think I’d use a t-touch and a AP grand sonnerie. Gotta back up that quartz, make sure I don’t forget close the windows.

If i was the only person left in a post-apocalyptic NYC. I would have my pick of all the watches i am interested in. The Hamilton Sunset is a really nice one though.

Randy… that was CLASSIC and so true. Regardless of whether Will wore it, I ordered a Sunset last night. Won it for $440. Will let you all know how great it is in a week.

I think Hamilton are good value for money.
