On my Honeymoon, ones of the stops we visited was Bangkok, Thailand. While Bangkok was not the ideal honeymoon location, we still had a great time and explored quite a bit of the city and checked out several of the malls. One of the malls that was a block away from our hotel was the Siam Paragon next to Siam Square. I’ve been told recently that this is the most expensive mall in Bangkok. I’m not surprised.

The Siam Paragon World Watch and Jewelry 2009 Show Signs – It runs until August 15th, 2009.

There was an abundance of Watch Retailers which were about to do a large show in the following weeks, which in fact is now underway. One of the larger dealers in the mall was PMT The Hour Glass, an incredible store that sells Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet among many others.

Additionally there was a separate Patek Philippe dealer and Omega Dealers as well. The sheer amount of watches was mind-boggling. I wasn’t expecting this in Bangkok. Hong Kong, yes, but not Bangkok.

There was a huge watch display out in the middle of the mall with twenty or so watch case with stuff from IWC to Harry Winston Opus models and Breitling that was simply incredible. I had a great time and would have taken more close up pics if there wasn’t three security guards hovering around the area at all times. I was getting nervous!

I’ve decided to post a giveaway on Youtube to try and bring some of the Youtube crowd together with the Forum Crowd… given the immaturity of some of the Youtube crowd, some of you might be asking me why I could possibly want to do this. Well, the majority of the users are very cool.. its primarily the younger ones that really have no interest in the watches to begin with that try and stir up trouble.

At any rate, I really wanted to do a youtube contest to see how it would pan out. Its not crazy popular yet, but hopefully it will take off. You need to watch the video and follow all the directions in the video to win!

I am awaiting my return flight home from Thailand and Hong Kong, and as most of you know, the amount of watch shops in Hong Kong is absolutely mindboggling. There are watch stores all over the place, on the streets, in the malls, and in the hotels. Each Mall has a minimum of half a dozen watch stores! I visited a few, and snaps a couple of pics, but nothing up close as I did not want to disturb the stores.

I am going to write up a small summary of my experiences in Thailand and HK. Keep posted!

In recognition of Canada Day, I’ll just make a short post to mention a Canadian Watch Company named Halios. Halios only has one model, the Holotype. It is a 300m rated Diver in the vein of the legendary Seiko Divers such as the Tuna Can and Samurai Divers.

The watches come in PVD and Stainless steel configurations, and start at $325. Sapphire Crystals, 316L Stainless Steel and Japanese Miyota Automatic movements are just some of the features.

I was asked if I had any interest reviewing one of the watches, but we haven’t ironed out any details yet. Perhaps soon we will feature a Review! For now all you get are pics.

Robbers walked in and sprayed security guards with mase, and smash and grabbed from the AP display case.

Jewelery Robberies are on the rise, even in fair Vancouver where I reside. This is unfortunate, and as people get desparate, such things will continue to happen. Keep these things in mind when considering an online purchase, especially without box and papers for some of these watches.

Archimede launches a new Big(gish) Pilot, the 45mm Automatic pilot, using a automatic swiss ETA 2824-2 Movement. Sort of an in-between size as it is smaller than most of the BP watches that are a 47mm diameter, and bigger than the 42mm varieties. I personally find the 42mm a good size, though a bit more diameter wouldn’t hurt. The 47mm I do find a bit big for my wrists and tastes, so this Archimede might be on my radar, even though I have quite enough pilot watches for now.

Well, full sized is a relative term. Back in the day, 36mm was full sized. Now, 42mm is the minimum that many would consider full sized. For me, 42mm is perfect size.

Enter the new Chronoswiss Chronoscope CM – a Regulator layout, with Mono-pusher Chronograph movement, based on the good ol Enicar that they love so much over there. Caliber C125 movement, and case measures a healthy 42.5mm in diameter! Finally a classic looking Chronoswiss with a big case. The timemaster was big enough, but the dial was not to my liking.

The watch is available in both Rose Gold and Stainless steel variations, and like most Chronoswiss watches has a Sapphire display back. At any rate, the movement is a unique modification by Chronoswiss, and the size is great. Combined with the unique and quintessentially Chronoswiss dial, this watch will be on my short-list.
